The 2008 State Derby is being presented by title sponsors Dan Cava Toyota, the Greater Bridgeport Convention & Visitors Center, Dan Ryan Builders, Michael L. Queen & Associates and the Jeep Dealers Association.
Joining the other title sponsors beginning this year is Huntington Banks. The State Derby Committee wants to thank our title sponsors for their continued support and want to welcome the folks at Huntington Banks represented by Clayton Rice, the bank's West Virginia corporate president.
Also, the State Derby Committe would like to thank and welcome Petroleum Development Corporation as a new Title Sponsor. PDC joined as a Title Sponsor this year thanks to the effort of Celesta Miracle, VP of Investor Relations & Communicaitons.
400 Racers Expected for Two-Day Championships!
This is the third year that West Virginia Pinewood Derby State Championships will be held in Bridgeport, West Virginia. We are pleased to welcome the scouts from the Stonewall Jackson District who will join the State Derby as part of their District Race.
This is the only Pinewood Derby State Championship in the United States. The State Derby Committee can accommodate up to 600 racers utilizing four regulation sized two-lane aluminum tracks approved by Boy Scouts of America. This is the 52nd year of Pinewood Derby racing in West Virginia.
Who is Eligible to Race in the State Championships?
Any Cub Scout, Boy Scout or Girl Scout associated with or a member of any Council, Pack or Troop in the state of West Virginia is eligible to participate in this State Derby. Racers DO NOT have to live in West Virginia to be eligible to race as long as they are members of a Council that includes or is headquartered in West Virginia. All Cub Scout racers as well as Girl Scouts and Brownie racers will only be permitted to race cars built in strict compliance with the rules established by the State Derby Committee (see Rules Page on the State Derby website). All other Divisions only have to comply with the width, height and length requirements (see Rules Page).
All scouts are required to wear a Class A uniform shirt while racing. Jeans are permissible for scout racers.
The State Derby Committee will award trophies to the "Top 12" fastest racers in each Division.

Registration Fees for Racers
The registration fee for each racer is $10. The first 200 racers to register either by mail or on the day of the race will receive an official State Derby t-shirt while supplies last.
The registration fee for the Mom's and Dad's Division is also $10 per racer but shirts and patches will not be provided.
There is NO Bring-A-Buddy race this year.
